Google Glasses Could Give Users "Terminator-Style" Vision

Google Glasses Could Give Users "Terminator-Style" Vision - As if you weren’t addicted to the Internet already.

Google researchers are building heads up displays that look like ordinary glasses, 9to5Google reported Monday.

Users will be able to walk around with “information popping up and into display - Terminator-style - based on preferences, location and Google’s information,” the blog reports.

Google’s glasses would be tied directly to Google’s cloud-based services, 9to5Google asserts. So users won’t need to bring a smartphone or other device with them to connect to the Internet.

To help do this, Google hired Richard DeVaul away from Apple in June. DeVaul’s PhD disseratation “The Memory Glasses,” was on personal heads up displays. DeVaul now works as a ‘rapid evaluator’ at Google, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Between 2004 and 2010, DeVaul was founder and president of AWare Technologies. Between 1997 and 2003, DeVaul worked as a research assistant at MIT’s Media Lab.

Google, of course, already offers an augmented reality application to smartphone users. Google Goggles layer data from Google’s servers over an image taken by the phone’s camera and display an enhanced image to a user.
